The Miraflores locks is a must see,

There are many ways to see the Miraflores Locks Canal visitors center and this is by far the main treat for many travelers wanting to take care of a unique bucket list eXperience of a lifetime.

The Transit times for the convoys to go through are not scheduled for the touristic experience, they are an actual industrial operation that is not staged.

Therefore keep in mind that to see ships in the Miraflores locks visitors center:

• The last “Northbound transit” usually clears the lock by 9 am, early birds have better chances of seeing ships in the morning, and
• The first “Southbound transit” usually arrives in the afternoon after 2 pm, so you can see the IMAX movie (45 minutes) at 1:30 pm to administer your time better.

Note: Overtime after 5 hours is $25.00 per hour.
